In order to help aid you on your trip to becoming famous you may want to think about using a stage name to give you an edge. Stage names can help get you noticed by getting peoples to attention.
Just as Norma Jean, immortalized through her movie career as well as Elton John’s first rendition of Candle in the Wind, had adopted the stage name of Marilyn Monroe, so had Ozzy Osborne, who was actually named Jonathan Michael Osborne. Marlyn Monroe’s name carried with it a musical quality accorded by the rhetorical device of alliteration. Meaning the use of similar first syllables in each word created a much more appealing name. Certain others like Robert Redford, Billy Baldwin, Alda Alda, Billy Bragg also benefited from this practice which made them more attractive. Not counting the cartoon characters of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
You also have the option of adopting a single word as your stage name. Twiggy, originally born Leslie Hornby was a pioneer in the field of one word names. This trend was started as early as the 60s. In the 70s, we Cher, originally Cherilyn Sarkisian followed in her footsteps. This of course, was made even more popular later by the illustrious artists Madonna, Sting and Prince. The trend is still used to this day for instance, Usher, actually called Usher Raymond IV, as well as Seal, whose actual name is Sealhenry Olusegun Olumide Samuel. For all of these people the use of a lone word allowed them to disengage from the usual multitude of people bearing two word names. This trend would be well worth your time to follow.
In contrast to the trends above there is another tradition as well. The use of three worded names has also been a popular trend. Sugar Ray Robinson who is actually Walker Smith Jr. and Sara Jessica Parker. James Earl Jones (actually Todd Jones) and Anna Nicole Smith (originally Vicky Hogan) also fall in the same category. The idea behind three worded names is that they roll off your tougue very easily making them fun and almost whimsical to say.
Given the background|history|past of stage names we are naturally led toward speculation of what the future holds. Perhaps the ultramodern aspect of super cool stage names would lead to the techno friendly futuristic usage of numbers. Thus we have a 2Pac who obviously likes his name Tupac Shakur. Curtis Jackson who calls himself 50Cent as been seen in music and the movies. If that is not enough we may always refer to Aaron D. Yates, who is called Tech N9ne as inspiration for more numerical names.
Do note that if you do decide to use a stage name that it does not mean you have to change your real name legally. There have been several famous people that have legally changed their name and many who have not. So take your time and figure out what a good stage name would be for you. Take into account things about your characteristics and what you like. Your stage name could be the name of your business or website to. It just depends on how you want to look at it. What ever you decide to do make sure you keep practicing your skills to back up your fancy name.
